Come Dine With Us!

Parents were invited, a class at a time, to come and dine with their children. It was a oportunity for parents, younger siblings and grandparents to have a school dinner and socialise. For some it brought back memories; for the young it was a chance to enjoy 'Big School' which the Playgroup children do after Easter.

The School Christmas outing, this year, was a trip to Bury St Edmunds and the lovely Theatre Royal for the pantomime 'Cinderella'. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Open Afternoon

Parents were invited to school to see the work created this term, including wonderful Tudor houses from Class 2 and Class 3 (dressed in 1940's attire to accompany their WW2 topic) tasting ration inspired recipes.

Burrough Green School was chosen as School of the week for the Jeremy Sallis show on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. Jeremy spoke to children and staff regarding life in our school. Clips can be found on our home page.

We give a warm welcome Miss Leggett to Burrough Green Primary School and to Class 1

Teamwork was the name of the game for our three-legged-race. The children were paired within their houses and ran round the course, relay style, for 20 minutes. The winners were the house that completed the most laps. It was a very close competition with Blue House the overall winners!
The school raised money for Sport Relief by everyone coming dressed to school in sports clothes and silly socks. The total amount raised was £120.
Thank you for all who donated to this worthwile cause.

Royston certificate presentation Claire McDonnell, South Cambs Sports Partnership presented a shield to our runners for being the overall winner of the South Cambs Sports Partnership XC Competition, held in Royston in December.  There were the four races (Yr 5 girls, Yr 5 boys, Yr 6 girls, & Yr 6 boys), each of which was a separate competition.  BGS won three of the four races (not Yr 5 girls), and therefore accumulated the best score to become the overall winner of the four races combined.  Schools had to have entered all four races in order to be eligible for this shield. So ... the Yr 5 girls scores were critical to winning the overall shield.

Thank you

Thanks to your support at the Christmas Concert and the Christmas card collection we have been able to give a donation of £45 to St. Augustine's Church, Burrough Green and through the Save the Children Wish List, we have been able to send 2 Art Sets, 3 School Bag Kits and a Teacher’s Kit to a school in a Country very much in need.

P1150538 December 2013 - The whole school enjoyed a trip to the Arts Theatre, Cambridge, to see the pantomime 'Robin Hood'. Mr Archer seemed to be dressed for the occasion. Fortunately for two of our Year Five girls the reality of starring in the show became true. They performed most days for several weeks in the chorus and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.  mr hood 1

December 2013 - At The Big Crib exhibition at St Mary's Church, Linton, we presented our Nativity scene. Joseph had been made sometime ago through a recycling workshop so we took the opportunity of using him and the older children in the photo created Mary from similar recycled materials; bottles, yoghurt pots, old plastic bags, plastic trays etc. The baby Jesus was made by our reception and year 1 children, each of whom wrote words i.e. joy, love, happiness, gentleness, peace and hope to put inside his body.

October 2013 - Congratulations to our Gardening Club, led by parent, Izzy Williamson for the level 1 Award for Planning. Congratulations to all our enthusiastic gardeners!

September 2013 - We celebrated World Milk Day run by Cool Milk.  Two representatives from Cool Milk Alistair White, Managing Director and Paul Chilton, PR, attended along with Sir James Paice, MP who acted as  Milk Monitor. All children in the school were supplied with a carton of milk and the visitors spent time with Class 1 enjoying milk and fruit. Sir Jim said “I am proud to be backing the school milk scheme. I believe that drinking milk regularly is good for all of us. Not only does milk provide children with many of the nutrients they need, it helps them concentrate throughout the school day.” See Class 1 page for more. World Milk Day
