Dear Parents and Carers

To see what’s been happening at BGPS, please go to our website and Twitter feed:

The children have all settled back into school routines well this week, and have started on their new learning projects.  Obama and Teresa Class have a history focus this half term and are learning about the “Groundbreaking Greeks”.  Einstein and Malala Class are learning about animals with their science-focussed “Predator!” (Einstein) and “Paws, Claws and Whiskers” (Malala).  It is a good idea to pick your home learning projects and plan them out over the next five weeks leading up to our Open Afternoon on Wednesday 30th March.

Einstein Class Update
We have really enjoyed having Mrs Harris back with us today.  She will be building up her time in the classroom gradually over the next few weeks.

Covid Update
As you will be aware, England’s covid restrictions changed yesterday.  Schools guidance from the DfE has been updated to reflect this.  In line with this, in school we will continue to focus on:
• Encouraging good hygiene for everyone.
• Maintaining appropriate cleaning regimes.
• Keeping occupied spaces well ventilated.
• Following public health advice on testing, self-isolation and managing confirmed cases of COVID-19.

There is no longer a legal requirement for people with coronavirus (COVID-19) infection to self-isolate, however if you have any of the main symptoms of COVID-19 or a positive test result, the public health advice is to stay at home and avoid contact with other people.  This also applies to children and young people who usually attend an education or childcare setting.  The DfE guidance makes it clear that it expects “parents and carers will agree that a pupil with the key symptoms of COVID-19 should not attend the school, given the potential risk to others.”  For this reason, schools will continue to have the authority to refuse to accept children “where they have a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19” and “in your reasonable judgement, it is necessary to protect other pupils and staff from possible infection with COVID-19.”

There is a letter from Jonathan Lewis (Director of Education for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough) attached to this letter with more information about the situation for schools in Cambridgeshire.
