Dear Parents and Carers
Unfortunately, we have had some upset at school this week caused by children messaging each other using WhatsApp at home. With my safeguarding hat on, I need to remind all parents that the minimum age of use for WhatsApp is 16, and no primary school children should have or use it. More information can be found on WhatsApp’s website, where it clearly states:
- Creating an account with false information is a violation of our Terms.
- Registering an account on behalf of someone who is underage is also a violation of our Terms.
Children of this age are not emotionally equipped to use social media, and all parents need to support them to stay safe and be kind online by monitoring their online activity and interactions using age-appropriate means. This is particularly important while we are in the current Covid situation because children do need contact with their peers for their well-being, but that contact needs to be safe. Attached to this email is a document produced by Norfolk Police with useful information for parents about WhatsApp.
When we are able to next year, we would be very happy to do an e-safety information evening for parents, if you think that would be useful. We will, of course, continue to teach e-safety to the children as part of our computing and PSHE curriculum.
Attached to this newsletter are booking forms if your child is interested in learning to play a woodwind instrument with Mrs Cooper, or the piano with Mrs Pumfrey next year. Instrument lessons will be able to resume with social distancing and handwashing! If you would like to discuss anything Mrs Cooper or Mrs Pumfrey, they are very happy for you to contact them. Mrs Copper has recorded a video with more information which you can watch here:
Thank you to you all for bringing in so many bags of clothes yesterday. You raised Thank you to the PTA for organising the collection, and for the gazebo!
If you need to order new school uniform, please find the form on the website, and email the school office. When we receive your order we will add the total amount payable to your SchoolGrid account.
End of Term
Just a reminder that we have just one week left until our last day of term on July 17th. BGPS will then be closed until 4th September.
Re-opening in September
We are looking forward to September and are very pleased that there will be changes to the protective measures guidance that will allow us to have all children back in school. If you would like to read it, the government information for parents about re-opening can be found here. We now have to work out how to implement these changes ready for September, and will be able to provide more detailed information over the next few weeks, after consulting with the governors and LA.
