Newsletter 29th March 2019

29th March 2019

 Dear Parents/carers

It was lovely to see you all this morning.  I do hope you enjoyed listening to our woodwind players.  If your child is interested in learning a woodwind instrument, please let the office know.

 Sara Hammond

On Monday, we will be welcoming Sara to our office team.  She will be working alongside Chris Jay for the week while Chris tries to share all of her school knowledge before she leaves us!

Mexican Themed Lunch on Wednesday 3rd April

As agreed with school council, there is another international-themed menu next Wednesday:

Chicken Enchiladas (oven baked wraps in a tomato sauce with a cheese topping); Sweetcorn and Bean Quesadilla (tortilla sandwich); Beef Chilli Tortillas, Tomato Salsa, Cheese and Sour Cream (mild beef chilli with tortilla crisps); Churros with a Sugar and Cinnamon Coating (donut-style dessert); Ice cream; Fresh Fruit

 Dinner Money

Please make sure that dinner money payments have been made by the end of term.

Lent Challenge – donations of food and toiletries

In our final week of the Lent Challenge, we will be thinking about how we can help charities to help those in need.  We have talked to the children about ‘Bags to School’ and what happens to the clothes we donate, and how they are used to help those in need.

In a recent study held by Age UK, it was found that a rising problem with the elderly is access to food. For our final challenge, we ask you to help us to donate food and toiletries to the Trussell Trust; a UK-based charity which helps people in need have access to food and essential items. It also offers a delivery service to support those who are unable to access their nearest food bank. Please bring your donations to school by Wednesday 3rd April.  (Please see the attached sheet of Suggested Donations for ideas.)  Thank you for your support.

Bus Passes for Y6 transferring to LVC in September

LVC have asked me to send the following information to all year 6 parents:

When you received the offer letter for your child’s place at Linton Village College you were asked to apply for a bus pass for the school bus if your child requires transport. This only applies to those students who live within catchment area for LVC and who will need to catch the county bus transport.  To date, only 6 parents have applied.  To apply for your pass, follow the link below.

 Tennis Club

I am very disappointed that our tennis club has had to stop.  Due to the unacceptable behaviour of the tennis coach last week, we are not able to use him in school any longer.  Newmarket Tennis Club have been very apologetic and supportive of our decision, and are trying to find a new coach for us so that Tennis Club can resume.  If you know of a qualified tennis coach who may be able to offer coaching at school, please let us know; we are very keen to provide extra-curricular sporting provision for our children.

Cricket

We are very pleased to be welcoming the “Chance to Shine” cricket coach back this year.  “Chance to Shine” is a charity that works in schools to provide children with a brilliant first experience of cricket.  They work with the English Cricket Board to send specialist coaches into schools for six weeks to support cricket coaching.  The children who worked with the coaches last year really benefited from their knowledge and experience.  There will be a special assembly on Wednesday, followed by six weekly coaching sessions for the children in class 4 and class 2.

 Orienteering

After enjoying the orienteering event for Y3/4 earlier this term, one of the Y3 children then took part with his family in an orienteering event that he would like to recommend to other families: Park-O, the orienteering equivalent of Park Run, organised by the West Anglian Orienteering Club.  These take place on Saturday afternoons in the parks around Cambridge.  Please see the attached flyer for more details or go to www.WAOC.org.uk for more information.  Thank you for the recommendation!

Parental concerns

We are aware that from time to time rumours can circulate through the school community.  If you hear of something that is concerning you, please come and talk to us rather than passing-on untrue information.  There is a senior member of staff at the door each morning, or you can contact the office to make an appointment to speak to me or email me head@burroughgreen.cambs.sch.uk   Alternatively, you can contact the chair of governors, Inger Anson ianson@burroughgreenprimary.co.uk   Please be assured, if there has been a safeguarding incident that you need to know about, we will notify you.

 TA Vacancy

We currently have a vacancy for a TA to work in school in the mornings.  If you are interested please come and talk to us.

 Next Term’s Menu
