4th September 2019
Welcome back! I hope that you all had a good summer holiday. It is lovely to see everyone again today, and to welcome lots of new faces, too.
New Lunch Catering
Thank you to everyone who booked lunch before coming to school today. If you haven’t received an email from School Grid to allow you to book online, please check your junk mail box and then let the office know. Once you are logged on to the website, it is very simple to book meals (daily or in advance) and pay using a card or even set up a direct debit. Whilst children can book when they get to school in an emergency, it will help our morning routine and allow more time for learning if you could book at home in advance. If your child is in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 their meals are paid for by the government, so are free to you. If your child is in Year 3, 4, 5 or 6, then meals cost £2.45.
If your child has any allergies or other dietary needs, please remember to go to the “food” tab on the website, choose “Allergens” and then choose the appropriate allergens from the list (or write notes in the dietary requirements section at the bottom of the page if your requirements are not listed). This will then block you from ordering foods that your child cannot eat.
If you think that you might be entitled to free school meals, please visit https://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/residents/children-and-families/schools-&-learning/help-with-school-&-learning-costs/free-school-meals/
If you do qualify, as well as paying for your child’s meals, the school also receives a Pupil Premium Grant based on the number of children who have received free school meals at some point in their school life. We use this grant to support learning for your child. This grant will be paid to your child’s school, directly benefitting your child, for the rest of their school career, so if you can apply for free school meals, please do (even if your child is in YR, 1 or 2).
This year, we are asking the children to bring water bottles with them to school each day. This will make it easier for them to stay hydrated during lessons, which is hugely important for their concentration, and is more hygienic than using cups in the classroom. Please ensure that all water bottles are clearly labelled with your child’s name.
The first celebration Assembly of the year will be on Friday 13th September – there is no celebration assembly this week.
Please join us on Tuesday 17th September at 6:30pm for our annual welcome evening. You will have the chance to find out about the school’s improvement priorities for the year ahead, meet the governors, tour the school and meet your child’s teacher, and ask any questions you might have.
Sports Coaching and Clubs
This year we are very pleased to welcome Dan Penfold from Prestige Sports Development as our sports coach. He is very experienced and enthusiastic, and will be a fantastic addition to our teaching team. He will be in school on Mondays delivering curriculum sport, and also running a lunchtime multi sports club for KS1 and an after school club for KS2 (see flyer attached). The clubs will start on Monday 9th September. Please book places directly through PSD’s website at www.prestigesportsdevelopment.co.uk
Today, some parents will receive new passwords for their accounts. These work on our website and on the e-schools app, which we use for communication. These passwords have been generated automatically as your previous details have expired. The new passwords will expire in 30 days if not used. It is important that you login to your account or download the app, so that you receive communications from school. This year, you will need to access your account to book parent consultations which will be held on Thursday 17th and Wednesday 30th October this term. We will give you more information about how to do this nearer the time.
Home Learning/Open Afternoon
Our first open afternoon of the year will be on Friday 18th October. Home Learning Project ideas will be sent out next week, and “Something to Talk About” books will also resume next Friday.
Roald Dahl Day
Next Friday (13th September) is Roald Dahl Day, which we will be celebrating in school with Roald Dahl themed activities. More details to follow.
