2nd September 2022
Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome back!  I hope you had an enjoyable and restful break.  It is lovely to see the children back in school, enjoying their new classes and spending time with their friends!  Welcome, too, to new members of our BGPS community – the staff and families who have just joined us.  We look forward to getting to know you.

PE Days
This term:
• Malala and Einstein Classes – Monday and Wednesday
• Teresa and Obama Classes – Monday and Friday
Please send children to school in their school PE uniform on their PE days:
• School PE T-shirt in their team colour (can be ordered through the school office)
• Black shorts or black tracksuit/leggings/skins
• School sweatshirt
• Trainers
(Please remember that football strips or brightly coloured leggings are not part of the school PE kit.)

Fence
You will have noticed that the wooden gate and fence at the front of the school has been replaced during the summer with some smarter and safer wire fencing with an intercom link into the school office for visitors.  The new fencing also separates the pedestrian and vehicle access to the school so that children are safer away from the car park.

The gate will be open from 8:40 in the morning – please do not arrive at school before this, as you won’t be able to access the school site.  The door into the school building will open at 8:45 as usual and remain open until 8:55 – you can arrive at any time during these 10 minutes.  We have a 10-minute window for the start of the school day in order to try and reduce parking issues outside school: not all parents need to be parked at the same time, and you should not need to be parked for long as you can just “drop and go” between 8:45 and 8:55.  If you are able to walk or use the school bus, this will further reduce traffic.

When you arrive at school, it is important that you accompany your child through the gate onto the school site and remain “school-side” until your child has entered the school building.  At the end of the day, you will need to come through the gate onto the school site to collect your child.  Teachers will not be allowing children to go out through the gate unaccompanied.

Macmillan Coffee Morning – Can you help?
We would like to host a coffee morning for Macmillan for the community on the morning of Friday 30th September.  This will be our first since before the pandemic!  We will need donations of cakes and biscuits on the day, and we will also need some volunteers to help set up the hall and serve drinks and snacks.  If you are able to help out on the morning of Friday 30th September, please email office@burroughgreen.cambs.sch.uk or head@burroughgreen.cambs.sch.uk   Thank you!

BGPS needs you! (Volunteering at BGPS)
Do you have any time during the school day which you could spend with us to read with children; support small groups with activities; or help with lunchtime or after-school clubs?  We are very keen to have parent volunteers in school this year.  If you are able to give the children some of your time, please contact Sara Hammond office@burroughreen.cambs.sch.uk with your email address, full name and date of birth so that we can start the DBS checking process.  If you have any questions, just ask!  (Reminder: We have booked next year’s resus training session for Tuesday 7th March 2pm.  Please come!  If you are able to, please let the office know.)

Upcoming Events
Please make sure you check our school calendar to stay up-to-date with information about future events, term dates, training days etc.  Important dates are added to the calendar long before being listed in the “coming up soon…” section of our weekly newsletter, so it is important to look at the calendar regularly to see what’s happening in the future.
