Save our Swimming Pool!

We think the pool is a fantastic asset for the children of Burrough Green and would like to keep it – but we need your help.  Thank you to the PTA who are busy organising fundraising events to help us to replace the pool liner which has come to the end of its natural life.  However, we do still need some more parent volunteers to help care for the pool, or we will not be able to go ahead with opening the pool this summer.   We need help at weekends with cleaning, checking and dosing the pool.  If you are able to help, or you know someone in the village who might, please contact us, and we can book you onto a training course.  Unfortunately, without some more community support at weekends and in the evenings, we will not be able to run a pool at BGPS.

Malala and Einstein visit to the Raptor Foundation

On Monday (7th March) Einstein and Malala Class trip will be visiting the Raptor Foundation to enrich their learning about animals linked to their “Predator!” project (Einstein) and “Paws, Claws and Whiskers” project (Malala).  We are very excited!

Beginning and end of the school day

It has been disappointing this week to watch some children’s behaviour at the front of the school at the beginning and end of the school day.  The front of the school site is not a playground and children should not be running through the flowerbeds or climbing on the boulders that are in those flowerbeds.  This is killing the plants, and climbing on the boulders is dangerous.  The door into school is open between 8:45am and 8:55am and you should aim to arrive on site between these times so that your children can walk straight into school, safe and calm and ready to learn.  Thank you for your support with this; it is important that the children are safe and are encouraged to have respect for school property.

Covid Update

We have had one case of Covid confirmed in Teresa Class today.

Although there is no longer a legal requirement for people with coronavirus (COVID-19) infection to self-isolate, if you have any of the main symptoms of COVID-19 or a positive test result, the public health advice is to stay at home and avoid contact with other people.  This also applies to children and young people who usually attend an education or childcare setting.  The DfE guidance makes it clear that it expects “parents and carers will agree that a pupil with the key symptoms of COVID-19 should not attend the school, given the potential risk to others.”  For this reason, schools will continue to have the authority to refuse to accept children “where they have a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19” and “in your reasonable judgement, it is necessary to protect other pupils and staff from possible infection with COVID-19.”

Swimming Pool

Thank you so much for those who have already volunteered to help with manning / quality testing the pool. For anyone interested in overseeing after school swimming sessions, there is a basic first aid course being run at 2.30pm on Wednesday 23rd March in school - this is an annual event (normally) and only lasts 1 hour.  For those who have kindly offered to water check thank you and we are looking at training options, and will be in touch!

Bags2School
Final reminder for the collection organised for Tuesday 8th March at 9am. We would be grateful for donations of any second hand clothing & accessories, shoes, bed linen, soft furnishings and soft toys in bin bags. All items are redistributed in the UK and abroad to assist where there is need - even ripped or damaged material is recycled! Donations can be dropped off outside the Reading Room from the morning of Monday 7th March until 9am on 8th March. No duvets, pillows or branded clothing / uniform please

Sponsored 'Circuits for the Pool'
This is our final fundraiser for year and it's a biggie! As you are aware, the school swimming pool has not been used at all over the last 2 years. We are therefore very keen to assist with the reopening this summer and get our children enjoying this brilliant resource once more! However, the pool liner is in need of replacement and this, alongside some necessary resurfacing work around the pool will cost approximately £9000.
The PTA has agreed to organise this fundraiser to help with this enormous sum. To keep within the sports theme, we are holding a sponsored sports circuit event on Friday 18th March. All pupils in the school will aim to undertake varied exercise circuits within a set period of time (push ups, skipping, running, balance work etc). All children can wear PE clothes on the day. We are asking parents, carers and family for sponsorship per circuit or a contribution as a whole - whatever is possible. A link will be sent out for online giving and a letter and paper sponsorship form will be coming home within the next week.

We are very aware of how generous the school parent and carer community have been with contributions to school projects and thank you sincerely for your ongoing support.
