4th December 2020

Dear Parents and Carers

For details of future events, please visit our website to view our calendar and checkout our community noticeboard for local events and activities.

Snow Day today

I am very sorry about the short notice decision to close school today – due to the atrocious weather and traffic conditions, it became apparent that we were not going to have enough staff at school to open safely.  I hope that the children were able to get some enjoyment from playing in the snow, and that you were able to find time to complete the learning tasks sent home by the class teachers.

Reminder: School Christmas lunch

Please order your child’s Christmas lunch by the morning of Monday 7th December on the school grid app - There is a choice of traditional roast turkey (turkey crown) or roasted vegetable and stuffing tart.

Christmas Cards for our internal post-box.

It has long been a tradition at BGPS that children send Christmas cards to each other via our post-box system.  This year, we will have to adjust the system slightly to reduce the risk of transmission of the coronavirus between our two bubbles.  Children will be still able to bring in Christmas cards for their classmates and friends, but they will need to know which class each friend is in.  Envelopes need to be clearly marked with the recipient’s forename and surname, and their Class number.  Cards must be brought to school on either Thursday 10th or Friday 11th December, and children will have an opportunity to place their card in the “For Class 3 and 4” post box or the “For Class 1 and 2” post box.  The cards will then be quarantined and distributed the following week by adults within the recipients’ own bubble.  Unfortunately children will not be able to bring in cards after Friday 11th December.

Christmas Activities

Although our normal nativity performance can’t go ahead this year, there will be Christmas activities for the children in school.  Next week we will have a “decoration day”, and we also have our Christmas lunch and Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 11th.  Christmas cards must be in school by 11th, too.  In the last week of term, we will be joining Ely Cathedral’s Virtual Christingle Service on the afternoon of Monday 14th December (more information here); Class 4 will be re-telling the nativity story to the other classes using a video link; we will have a signed carol service in school on the last morning of term; and the children will finish with class Christmas activities in the afternoon.

New payment system for uniform and schools trips – Action required

An email was sent from our management system Bromcom yesterday with an activation code for MCAS (My Child At School).  Please login and activate your account. This is an app for your phone, that will enable you to order e.g. uniform and pay directly to school; update your child’s details and your contact details; and have an overview on their attendance.  This system also has other functions that we may introduce in time.  (You will still need to book and pay for school lunches directly with our catering provider, Dolce, through SchoolGrid.)

Covid email address

We have a new e-mail address for COVID communications:

This email will be monitored during the day, in the evenings and at weekends so that we can support you if your child, or someone in your household, has coronavirus symptoms (a higher than normal temperature, a new continuous cough, or a change in sense of smell or taste) or has a confirmed case of COVID.  We can advise you about what to do next, and ensure that remote learning is put into place as quickly as possible.  It will also help us to take prompt and appropriate action to safeguard other members of the school community. It is very important that you inform school as soon as possible of a positive test result.

Please use to let us know:

• if your child has coronavirus symptoms and will be at home isolating and awaiting a test result

• if someone in your house, support or childcare bubble has coronavirus symptoms or a positive test result (and so your child will be at home isolating)

• the result of your child’s test (positive or negative)

During school hours, it is still best to phone the school with urgent communications.  For all other communications, please continue to use Thank you for your support with this.
