Newsletter 11.12.2020

11th December 2020

Dear Parents and Carers

For details of future events, please visit our website to view our calendar and check out our community noticeboard for local events and activities.

End of Term

Although the DfE have indicated that schools can bring forward a training day from later in the year, at BGPS we will not be changing our planned term dates.  The last day of term is Friday 18th December as planned.  The children will return on Tuesday 5th January.

Maths Bee

This week we held Maths Bees for the children.  They competed in their house teams, with one Bee for each bubble.  We were very impressed by their enthusiasm as well as their maths skills!  We combined the results from both Bees, and the winning team was March (yellow).  Well done everyone!  Next half term we will have a Bee in a different subject.

Free School Meal Vouchers/Winter Grant Scheme

Earlier this week, we sent you a letter from CCC about accessing FSM vouchers and other financial support.  If your child is currently receiving FSM, you should receive these automatically by email next week (unless you tell us that you don’t want them).  If you need other types of assistance, please follow this link to the CCC website for more information.  The CCC letter with all of the details about FSM vouchers and the Winter Grant is attached to this newsletter or you can find more information here.

If you are not currently receiving FSM, but your financial circumstances have changed recently, you might be eligible.  It is very easy and quick to apply here.  This not only provides your child with free school meals, but also gives the school additional funding to support teaching and learning.

If you have any questions about free school meals or the Winter Grant Scheme, we are happy to help!

PTA News

Auction of Promises - we want to extend a big thankyou to everyone who participated in this event, whether generously donating items or trying to bid for much desired lots! We raised £1266 towards the Reading Campaign for the school and are blown away by the support from parents and the local community.

As a result of fundraising this term, the PTA have been able to make a significant contribution towards the purchase of a whole new reading scheme for Key Stage 1 (Biff, Chip and Kipper are now officially retired!). We hope that this will benefit the young readers in the school, and we look forward to contributing to Key Stage 2 soon. Thank you all!

Easy fundraising and Amazon Smile - thank you to everyone who has been using these to shop online. If you are Christmas shopping online, simply shop as usual through these sites - no extra cost to you, but donations straight to the PTA from the retailers that you shop with. Please see the links below for more information

PTA Meeting - the Minutes from our last meeting are attached and also available on the PTA section of the school website. Our next meeting is on Tuesday 9th February 2021.
