Dear Parents and Carers

Shared Worship

It was lovely to have so many parents join us for our collective worship this morning.  We are looking forward to welcoming the parents of Y6 to a special Y6 leaver’s celebration next Friday morning.

Hot Weather

We know that the weather is predicted to be very hot on Monday and Tuesday next week.  At the moment, the DfE and the Local Authority’s position is that all schools stay open; if this changes, we will let you know.  Please feel free to send your child in their PE kit (shorts and T-shirt) on both days. Please also remember to apply plenty of sunblock, and make sure they have a hat and a refillable water bottle.  We are following the LA and government’s advice for schools in hot weather and will do our best to keep the rooms as cool as possible.  When/if the children are outside, they will be sitting quietly under the trees in the shade – we are fortunate to have plenty of this.

BGPS needs you! (Volunteering at BGPS)

Do you have any time during the school day which you could spend with us to read with children; support small groups with activities; or help with lunchtime or after-school clubs?  We are very keen to have parent volunteers in school next year.  If you are able to give the children some of your time, please contact Sara Hammond office@burroughreen.cambs.sch.uk with your email address, full name and date of birth so that we can start the DBS checking process.  If you have any questions, just ask!  (Reminder: We have booked next year’s resus training session for Tuesday 7th March 2pm.  Please come!  If you are able to, please let the office know.)

From the Governors …

The governors would like to share the following points from their last meeting:

  • Governors were thrilled to receive the KS2 (Y6) Assessment Outcomes which were above Cambridgeshire and national averages.
  • Governors are delighted to announce that Jeremy Hinde has been reappointed to the Governing Body as a Parent Governor for a further term.
  • Governors wish to highlight that Ofsted’s expectation for pupil attendance is 96% - at Burrough Green average attendance is currently 95.1%.  We would value support from parents towards achieving the expected attendance rate.
  • Governors were pleased to see the high turnout of parents at some of the parent events that have taken place this term, and would welcome your feedback.

SEND Consultation

There is currently a government consultation on the future of SEND support in schools.  Please find attached some information from the Local Authority about this.

Upcoming Events

Make sure you check our school calendar to stay up-to-date with information about future events, term dates, training days etc.  Important dates are added to the calendar long before being listed in the “in the next few weeks…” section below, so it is important to look at the calendar regularly to see what’s happening in the future.

In the next week…

Upper School Performance of “Olivia” - Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th July 6:30pm

Obama and Teresa Classes are looking forward to their production next week.  As the weather is predicted to be very hot, we will be using the Reading Room for the dress rehearsal and the two performances, as it has air conditioning.  Please bring the children back to school at 6pm to get ready. There will be refreshments available in the reading room before the performances while they do.  You will receive a message via Class Dojo to let you know your ticket allocation.  If you have not received this by Monday, please contact us.
