Open Event for Reception pupils for September 2023
Is your child due to start school in Reception in September 2023? (Born between 1 September 2018 and 31st August 2019) Do you know anyone else who has a child due to start?
We have two open sessions for parents to come and visit us to find out more about BGPS and Malala Class. These are: Monday 10th October between 2pm and 3pm and Wednesday 9th November between 2pm and 3pm. Please call the school office on 01638 507236 to book a visit.
Year 6 parents – secondary transition applications for 2023 are now open!
To make your application, you must log into the Citizen online portal. Last year the majority of parents chose to make their applications for a school place online; this year there are no paper application forms. You need to apply via your home local authority (where you pay your Council Tax) for transferring from Primary to Secondary school.

Applications must be submitted by Monday 31st October.
Piano lessons
Would you like your child to learn to play the piano?
Spaces are available for new pupils in Y2 or above to begin learning with Mrs Pumfrey. She has been teaching at BGPS for fifteen years, and has started lots of BG children on their musical journey! For further details please get in touch with Mrs Pumfrey, jopumfrey.jp@gmail.com
Lunchtime Clubs at BGPS
There are lots of lunchtime clubs available to children this term at BG: library club, construction club, gardening club, Knit and Natter, TTRS club, Boardgames club and choir. (Different clubs are for children in different year groups.) The children have chosen which ones they wanted to join, and most clubs had their first meeting this week. I have been very impressed by the aspiration and resilience of the new knitters!
“Meet the Teachers” Evening
It was great to see so many of you on Wednesday evening. The class teachers were able to share lots of information with you about learning in their class, clubs, our website etc. I hope those of you who were able to come found it useful. Teachers have/will post the presentations that they shared on ClassDojo or Tapestry for anyone who could not be there.
Upcoming Events
Please make sure you check our school calendar to stay up-to-date with information about future events, term dates, training days etc. Important dates are added to the calendar long before being listed in the “coming up soon…” section of our weekly newsletter, so it is important to look at the calendar regularly to see what’s happening in the future.

Reminder: BGPS needs you! (Volunteering at BGPS)
Do you have any time during the school day which you could spend with us to read with children; support small groups with activities; or help with lunchtime or after-school clubs? We are very keen to have parent volunteers in school this year. If you are able to give the children some of your time, please contact Sara Hammond office@burroughreen.cambs.sch.uk with your email address, full name and date of birth so that we can start the DBS checking process. If you have any questions, just ask! (Reminder: We have booked next year’s resus training session for Tuesday 7th March 2pm. Please come! If you are able to, please let the office know.)
