20th May 2022
Dear Parents and Carers
To see what’s been happening at BGPS, please go to our website and Twitter feed:
Congratulations to the Y5 Maths Challenge Team
You may remember that our Y5 maths team made us very proud earlier this term by finishing third in their heat of the county maths challenge. We have learned this week that their score was good enough to take them through to the final! This is the second year in a row that BG Y5 pupils have made it to the county maths final – which is a huge achievement. Their aspiration and resilience has paid off! Well done Y5 maths team!
Newmarket Pony Academy
Our first group of Y6 pupils have spent the whole of this week at the Newmarket Pony Academy. We are very grateful to the NPA for giving our pupils this opportunity to learn about horses and ponies and have the chance to ride, which not all children are lucky enough to experience. I know the group have been resilient and kind; it has been good for their mental health and well-being; and they have had a fantastic time! The rest of our Y6 pupils will be with the NPA next week. Please take a look at the photographs on our website and twitter feed.
As we were reminded today, in Britain it can rain even when we are not expecting it! Please make sure your child brings a coat to school every day. We go outside for fresh air and exercise unless it is really pouring hard, and it is important that they are properly dressed!
Swimming Pool Update
We have watched with excitement this week as the new pool liner has been fitted, and we have begun the filling and commissioning process. Decking materials have been delivered and should be fitted at the changing-room end of the pool next week. Thank you to Sara in the office for chasing and “prodding” the contractors to make sure the pool is ready in time! On 6th June, at the end of the Jubilee Tea Party, (3:20pm) the pool area will be open so that you can have a look at the refurbishments.
Please check our school website for information about future events, term dates, training days etc. There is at least one event for parents each week for the rest of the summer term. http://www.burroughgreen.cambs.sch.uk/website/calendar/386598
Open Afternoon – Wednesday 25th May
We are looking forward to welcoming you into school next Wednesday afternoon at 2:45pm to see what the children have been learning about this half term. Obama Class and Teresa Class have been time travelling; Einstein Class have been learning about rocks and volcanoes; and Malala Class have been finding out about dinosaurs. Remember, this weekend is your last chance to finish your home learning projects so that the children can share them with each other and other parents on Wednesday.
BGPS Jubilee Celebration on Monday 6th June 2pm
We are looking forward to our red, white and blue Jubilee Tea Party on the afternoon of Monday 6th June to round-off the weekend of celebrations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. As we have combined this event with our May Day festivities this year, the children have been practising hard to learn their English country dances, and I hope you will be ready to join in with our traditional community dance – the Circassian Circle! (If you want to practise, there is a clip here!) We would like the children to wear any combination of red, white and blue clothing on the day; please feel free to do the same. To help us plan, please could you let us know if you are able to join us on 6th June by completing this form.

Anna Hayesmore and the Burrough Green Team
It is so exciting to see the work on the swimming pool progressing so well. The pool liner has gone in this week and the additional works should be completed by the end of next week. Pupils, parents and carers have played such a key role in fundraising for this project, and this has enabled the work to commence speedily. In recognition of such a project success, the pool area will be open after the Platinum Jubilee celebrations on Monday 6th June. Please do stop by and see what you have helped to achieve!
PTA Committee stepping down
As we near the end of this summer half term, the committee want to say a big thank you and the children for your ongoing support of PTA events. It really makes all the difference.
We also wanted to remind everyone that after 3 years of service, the current PTA committee will be stepping down at the next AGM. We would welcome any interest for prospective Chair, Treasurer and Secretary roles - please forward the attached poster to anyone who may be interested and contact Fran (Chair) on firstname.lastname@example.org for any specific information. Thank you.
