Dear Parents and Carers

For details of future events, please visit our website to view our calendar and community noticeboard for local events and October half term activities.

Social Distancing at the end of the school day

I am becoming increasingly concerned that some parents are not following the rules about maintaining a 2m distance from each other when collecting their children at the end of the day.  We know that the incidence of COVID-19 is increasing nationally, and we need your support to reduce the opportunity for it to spread in our community.  If COVID is brought into school, it could cause disruption to learning for lots of children, and difficulty for parents who would have to go back to teaching their children at home.  Please think about the safety of other people and remember to stay 2m away from each other.  Thank you to those parents who are wearing face coverings in the school grounds to further minimise the risk of transmission.

Individual Photographs – change to PE day for Classes 3 and 4

Individual photographs will be taken by Tempest Photography on 30th September, Wednesday morning.  If you have children who are siblings in school (or who are at pre-school on Wednesday morning) then sibling photographs will be taken as well as individual photographs.  All children should wear their normal school uniform (not their PE kit) on Wednesday 30th September.

As children will be in their uniform on Wednesday, next week Class 4’s PE days will be Thursday and Friday; Class 3’s PE days will be Monday and Friday.

Special Disney-themed meal on Thursday October 1st

Schools are reimbursed annually by the government for the cost of providing free school meals for children in YR, Y1 and Y2.   The money that we get back from the DfE to provide these meals is calculated from the number of YR, 1 and 2 children who have a school meal next Thursday (October 1st).  It would be really helpful for the school’s finances if all children in YR, Y1 and Y2 could order a school meal on Thursday (it won’t cost you any money).  Parents of children in KS2 (Y3, 4, 5 and 6) will be charged as normal.  Thank you for your support with this.

Menu change from Thursday October 1st

From 1st October we will be returning to a full menu of hot school meals including roast dinners, cottage pie and macaroni cheese!  The new menu is attached to this email, and meals can be ordered on School Grid as usual.  (If you have received a “meals cancelled” email from SchoolGrid, this is because of the new menu, so that you can make new choices.)

Data Collection Forms

Data collection forms will be sent home next week, please check all the details, amend and send back to school as soon as possible. There will be a post box for them by the school reception area.

Coats and suitable clothing for the weather

Sara and Alison in the office have been very busy this week phoning parents to ask them to bring in coats and warm clothing for their cold, wet children.  As the weather has become distinctly autumnal, please make sure your child is suitably dressed each day.  They must bring a waterproof coat every day as they go outside for exercise at least twice a day unless it is raining very hard.  On PE days, they need to have tracksuit trousers/leggings and their school sweatshirt to keep them warm.

Assessment information meeting for parents of Y6 children

Ms McDowell will be holding a virtual meeting for parents of the children in Y6 to explain the assessment process for the end of Y6 and talk about ways in which you can support your child at home this year.  The meeting will be at 6:30pm on Tuesday 6th October.  A link will be sent out to Y6 parents prior to the meeting.  If you have any specific questions about the process this year, please could you email or so that we can make sure that we build the answers into the presentation.

Reminder - Flu Vaccinations – please register your child!

Your child is entitled to a flu vaccination (nasal spray) as part of the Annual Childhood Flu Immunisation Programme 2020/21 – Reception through to Y6.

If you would like you child to receive this, please register your child online by Wednesday 30th September at   You will be unable to register your child after this date.

PTA News

Second Hand Uniform

A big thankyou to everyone who has and continues to donate uniform for our second hand sales. Since face to face sales are tricky to organise currently, if you have any requirements, please do contact the PTA with your requests and we will try to source these. Email or via BG School Crowd on Facebook

Amazon Smile

You can provide extra support to the school PTA by nominating BG PTA and Friends for support on Amazon Smile. It provides the same format and availability as a 'normal' Amazon experience but donates 0.5% of your net shopping bill to the PTA. This is a really valuable source of income for us, so please consider signing up at

We have arranged another collection date on Tuesday 17th November, so please keep your unwanted clothes etc to one side. Through everyone's generosity, we were able to raise over £200 from the last collection so thank you! Donations will again be accepted in your own bags
