Newsletter 30.04.2021

30th April 2021

Dear Parents and Carers

This morning we were joined by Revd Sue Martin, The Bishop’s Officer for Schools, for our Collective Worship.  She helped us to remember Revd Nikki as we shared our memories of the joy that she brought to our school.  We shared a prayer for Revd Nikki, which you might like to use at home with your children.  We hope that we can all hold Revd Nikki in our thoughts, and follow her example of selflessness in our actions today and always.  In time, we would like to create a lasting memorial to Revd Nikki at school for the children to enjoy and remember her by.

Dear Father,

We remember Revd Nikki and are so sorry she is no longer with us. We remember her smile, the sound of her voice, all the things she liked doing and shared with us.  Nikki was a wonderful vicar and friend to us all. Her time in Burrough Green School will always be remembered. She taught us so much about Jesus and his love for us all. We found out through stories just what it means to be Christian; Nikki was such a good teacher.

It is a mystery why Nikki died so suddenly. Father, please be with her family and all those who loved her dearly.  Look after her Lord, in heaven, let her be the wonderful person that she was with us. Guard and keep her safe with your angels and let her know we are praying and thinking of her.

Amen

News from the Governors

Dear Parents/Carers

I am delighted to have been elected as your Chair of Governors and thank Inger Anson for all she achieved for the school in that role. I thought it may be helpful to our school community if governors fed back to you following each meeting. With that in mind, we will provide in ‘Key points to be shared’ within the newsletter following our meetings. Below are those points from our meeting held on 19th April.

I look forward to meeting you when we are able, once more, to meet face to face. In the meantime, if you wish to contact the governing body please email the clerk, Katie Bevan via clerk@burroughgreen.cambs.sch.uk or myself, chair@burroughgreen.cambs.sch.uk

Mrs Anthea Kenna

Key Points from the Governors’ April 19th meeting:

  •          Governors are pleased to see the positive outcomes from the improved learning provisions offered during the January-March 2021 lockdown as evidenced in the school’s progress data.
  •          Governors are pleased to have been able to set the budget for the 2021-2022 financial year, but note the continued need for fundraising to support the school.
  •          Governor monitoring visits have continued to take place with subject leaders, albeit virtually, and governors are pleased to see the commitment to continued school improvement across the curriculum.
  •          Governors are pleased to see high levels of attendance across the school and that pupils are happy to be back in the classroom.
  •          The governing body would like to thank Inger Anson for her hard work and commitment to the children of Burrough Green as her term as Chair of Governors comes to an end. Mrs Anthea Kenna has been elected as the new Chair of Governors.

Reminder: Outdoor footwear

We have been blessed by good weather so far this term, and we are taking every opportunity to take the children outside for their well-being.  We have also introduced additional exercise into the school day to make up for the impacts of the last lockdown, such as the daily mile (children are being encouraged to run as far as they can in their class’ time slot).  With the better weather, we are also able to use the field as well as the playground and bark/climbing area during playtimes.  As the children are so active during the school day, it is important that their outdoor footwear is suitable for these activities – trainers would be ideal at this time of the year. (Although, please bear in mind that some trainers offer little protection from the rain, and would not be appropriate in wet weather or during the winter).  Sandals are not suitable for active school life!

Reminder: School Uniform Lost Property

We are building up a pile of lost property in school!  Unnamed items (or items where the name has faded) are very difficult to re-unite with their owners.  Please could you check your child’s clothing to make sure that their name is still legible?  Thank you!
