13th November 2020
Dear Parents and Carers
For details of future events, please visit our website to view our calendar and our community noticeboard for local events and activities.
Children in Need
Thank you all for your generous donations this morning.  We will let you know how much was raised next week after the money has been quarantined and counted!
Reminder: 27th and 30th November
Don’t forget that BGPS is closed on Friday 27th and Monday 30th November.  We did not realise that there would be a global pandemic when we planned this long weekend, but we hope that you and your children can make the most of this short breathing space in what is otherwise a long and tiring Autumn Term!
Christmas Jumper Day / School Christmas lunch
As we have done in the past, we will be supporting Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 11th December – if children wish to wear a Christmas Jumper they should bring a £1 donation. We will also have our school Christmas lunch on the same day. Please order your child’s Christmas lunch by the morning of Monday 7th December on the school grid app -
Reminder: Free School Meals
If your financial circumstances have been affected by the COVID 19 crisis your child could now be entitled to Free School Meals.
You may not be aware that there is a difference between Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) and Benefit Related Free School Meals (FSM).  All children in YR, 1 and 2 automatically receive UIFSM, but your child may also be eligible for Benefit-Related Free School Meals. If your child is in Y3, 4, 5 or 6 it is estimated that you could save around £450 per year in lunch costs.
There are also wider on-going benefits to your child throughout their primary school education if you register for Benefit-Related FSM.  When you receive FSM, you will also allow BGPS to receive a Pupil Premium Grant, which is extra money that we can use in a variety of ways to support children from families on lower incomes.  So, even if your child is currently in receipt of UIFSM (Reception, Year 1 or Year 2), we recommend that you apply for FSM if you are eligible.
It is very quick and easy: just fill out the simple online application form at   You will receive an instant response as to your eligibility status. If you are eligible for FSM the school will be informed within 3 days.
FSM Eligibility Criteria
• Income Support
• Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
• Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
• Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
• The guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
• Child Tax Credit (unless you’re also entitled to Working Tax Credit, and earn no more than £16,190)
• Working Tax Credit run-on (paid for 4 weeks after you stop receiving Working Tax Credit)
• Universal Credit (provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400)
