23rd October 2020
Dear Parents and Carers
We have reached the end of this half-term and I think the children are ready for a break! We are all very proud of them (and the BGPS staff team) for their “can-do” attitude; they have coped so well with all of the strange new procedures in school and made the best of a very strange situation. We hope you all have a safe and restful half-term holiday, and we look forward to seeing the children on Monday 2nd November.
For details of future events, please visit our website www.burroughgreen.cambs.sch.uk to view our calendar and our community noticeboard which has details of local events and October half term activities.
PE day change
After the half-term holiday, Class 3 and 4’s PE days will be Tuesday and Friday.
We know that the number of cases of COVID-19 is increasing in our area, although it is still low in comparison to national data. This means that we are currently in the “Medium” category. We continue to be assured by the government that primary schools will remain open even if our area were to move into the “Very High” category, and that primary schools will not be closed as part of any future lockdown. However, there have been positive cases of COVID-19 in primary schools in Cambridgeshire, and bubble closures are becoming more regular. We have been fortunate that there have been no cases yet at BGPS; thank you for following all of the protective measures that we have in place.
We are keeping the Coronavirus Information page on our website (which can be found here) updated regularly. There is information there about the current restrictions in our area; how to decide if you or your child needs a test; the current rules about self-isolation; and how the school will respond if there is a case of COVID at BGPS including our remote learning plan which details how we will support children who have to self-isolate at home and our expectations of pupils and parents who find themselves in that situation. If you or your child has a positive test result during half term, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know.
If you are intending to leave the country during the half term holiday next week, please make sure you are aware of the restrictions that are in place on returning from certain locations. Families will need to isolate for 14 days after they return unless they have visited a country which is in a travel corridor. This period of isolation is fixed regardless of whether you or your child has been tested.
Attached to this newsletter is a letter from the Local Authority with some advice about how to celebrate Halloween safely in the current circumstances.
Supporting the Poppy Appeal
We will be supporting the Poppy Appeal again this year. We have two boxes of poppies, one for each bubble! If you would like to support this cause, your child can bring a donation in a named, sealed envelope on Monday 2nd November and the children will receive a poppy. (We will quarantine the donations before opening!)
Reminder: Parent Consultations
We were relieved that technology (and the often unstable Burrough Green internet connection) did not let us down on Wednesday – for a first attempt virtual parent consultations ran smoothly! The rest of the meetings are on the Tuesday after the half term holiday (November 3rd). You will receive a Google Meet link via ClassDojo or Tapestry in advance of the meeting. Meetings will start at ten-minute intervals, so will need to finish promptly to allow the class teacher to open the next meeting on time.
Reminder: Flu vaccinations
If you have signed up for your child to have the flu vaccination, this will take place on Wednesday November 3rd.
Reminder: Clocks go back!
Don’t forget to put your clocks back an hour this Sunday, 25th October!
Amazon Wish List
We have added two new wish lists, one for SEND and another for playtime equipment. A big thank you to parents who have brought items from the wish lists, it is very much appreciated that you are supporting the school. You can find our wish lists here:
Sponsored Wordathon Event - we will be holding this at school on Friday 13th November for all of the children to participate in. Any sponsorship monies will be going towards fully updating the children's reading books for KS1 and 2. We will be sending out sponsorship forms in the week after half term and would really appreciate support for this very worthy cause. To make life easier, there will be options for bank transfers and PayPal but good old cash is equally acceptable!
Easy fundraising - this is another excellent option for shopping online with over 4000 retailers, whilst raising extra money for the PTA school funds. Like Amazon Smile, each purchase generates a donation to our cause (Burrough Green PTA and Friends). Check out the link below for fashion, food, travel and insurance retail:
Bags2School - the next Bags2School collection will be on Tuesday 17th November. Please bring unwanted clothing (not uniform), bed linen (no duvets or pillows please), accessories and soft toys to school in bags by 9am. Donation point will be near the Reading Room.
