National Poetry Day Shared Worship
Thank you to everyone who joined us this morning as we celebrated National Poetry Day. The children really enjoyed sharing the poems they had learned, showing aspiration and resilience in learning them. I hope you enjoyed hearing their performances. We are looking forward to Open Afternoon on Wednesday 19th October, when the children will be able to share their project work from this term – they really do enjoy telling other people about their learning, so please come if you can!
We would like to thank Jon at JMWServices. He has very kindly given his time for free this week to grind out our tree stumps on the bark area making the area safer for the children to play. We are incredibly grateful for this – a very kind and generous act. Thank you!
Our Y6 children are very lucky to be visiting the Newmarket Pony Academy in the next two weeks. This was an incredible opportunity for last year’s Y6 children who had a fantastic time when they went. Spending a week working with the horses was good for their mental health, teamwork and organizational skills, and we could see the benefit of it in the following weeks at school. It was such a positive experience for them that we are really pleased to be able to offer it again this year.
Reminder: Open Event for Reception pupils for September 2023
Is your child due to start school in Reception in September 2023? (Born between 1 September 2018 and 31st August 2019) Do you know anyone else who has a child due to start?
We have two open sessions for parents to come and visit us to find out more about BGPS and Malala Class. These are: Monday 10th October between 2pm and 3pm and Wednesday 9th November between 2pm and 3pm. Please call the school office on 01638 507236 to book a visit.
Reminder: Year 6 parents – secondary transition applications for 2023 are now open!
To make your application, you must log into the Citizen online portal. Last year the majority of parents chose to make their applications for a school place online; this year there are no paper application forms. You need to apply via your home local authority (where you pay your Council Tax) for transferring from Primary to Secondary school.

Applications must be submitted by Monday 31st October.
Please make sure you check our school calendar to stay up-to-date with information about future events, term dates, training days etc. Important dates are added to the calendar long before being listed in the “coming up soon…” section of our weekly newsletter, so it is important to look at the calendar regularly to see what’s happening in the future.

Do you have any time during the school day which you could spend with us to read with children; support small groups with activities; or help with lunchtime or after-school clubs? We are very keen to have parent volunteers in school this year. If you are able to give the children some of your time, please contact Sara Hammond email@example.com with your email address, full name and date of birth so that we can start the DBS checking process. If you have any questions, just ask! (Reminder: We have booked next year’s resus training session for Tuesday 7th March 2pm. NO COST to you, Please come! If you are able to, please let the office know.)
Anna Hayesmore and the Burrough Green Team
Bags2School - a big thankyou to everyone who provided donations to Bags2School. They were collected this morning and we will let you know how much has been raised when the total comes in!
School Autumn Disco - this popular event is back and will be held on Friday 14th October between 6 and 7pm
This is open to all Burrough Green pupils with an entry fee of £2 per child. The event will be in the school hall and drop off / pick up will be from the front courtyard door.
We are pleased to be running a tuck shop with crisps, sweets and drinks all priced at 50p per item.
It would be brilliant if any parents would be willing to volunteer to help with overseeing the dance floor on the night. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org or speak to Jo Harrison if you are able to help.
We look forward to seeing some creative dance moves!
Amazon Smile - Please remember to use Amazon Smile and nominate 'Burrough Green PTA and Friends' as your chosen charity. For each purchase, the PTA receives a small percentage donation from Amazon at no extra cost to you. It's a really simple way to donate without even realising it!
Easyfundraising.org - Money for the PTA whilst doing your usual shopping. There are lots of retailers and service providers on the list, businesses you normally shop with anyway. Even if you log into your favourite retailer through the app half way through, it saves your basket, so you don’t have to do anything different. Try it, it really does make a difference https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk
