The Ark at Burrough Green

“Rooted in kindness, growing towards the future”

The Ark at Burrough Green is an Enhanced Resource Base that offers targeted, flexible support for children with autism with an EHCP. We aim to provide a bespoke curriculum that uses evidence informed practise to support and develop each child as their own learner. The base will be able to offer 10 places for learners with ASD as their primary EHCP need, utilising both the ARK classroom and planned accesses to mainstream classrooms where appropriate. 

We have a strong team who have all received specialist training to understand ASD alongside a variety of other needs. Our class teacher, teaching assistants and leadership team believe strongly in working with families as expert partners to provide a holistic and consistent approach to learning that allows each child to grow towards the future.

 

We offer two pathways for children within the base

· Explore Pathway- A highly personalised pathway that provides secure foundations, predictable routines, focused teaching and carefully structured opportunities to communicate, regulate, build independence and engage with learning. Mainstream access is planned around the child’s strengths, needs and readiness.

· Adventure Pathway- A personalised pathway with broader access to mainstream learning, supported by preparation, adaptation, trusted adults and purposeful review. Children develop confidence, independence and belonging while continuing to receive specialist support through the Enhanced Resource Base.

Both pathways are rooted in Aspiration, Resilience and Kindness and keeps every child connected to the ARK community.

Aspiration: Aim High

Children are encouraged to believe in themselves, set goals, take pride in learning and look to the future with hope and ambition.

In the Burrough Green Journey, Aspiration is seen in pupils who ask questions, try new things, take on challenge and believe that their work and effort matter.

Resilience: Don’t Give Up

Children learn that learning can be difficult, mistakes are part of progress and perseverance helps them grow.

In the Burrough Green Journey, Resilience is seen in pupils who keep trying, accept support, respond to feedback and move forward even when the path feels challenging.

Kindness: Care About Each Other and the World Around You

Children learn to show compassion, respect difference, care for their community and act with thoughtfulness.

In the Burrough Green Journey, Kindness is seen in pupils who include others, listen carefully, help one another, repair relationships and care for the world around them.

To be consider for a placement in the ERB, the child must:

· Live within a 45 minutes drive of the school

· Be in School years 3-4

· Have an EHCP with ASD listed as their primary need

· Need long-term, consistent support to access education meaningfully

· Have the capacity to work within the National Curriculum between Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 or 2

Children may also experience commonly occurring conditions, including social, emotional and mental health difficulties, emotionally based school avoidance, differences in communication and interaction, sensory processing difficulties or anxiety.
