12th July 2019
The KS2 children are practising hard for their performances of “Rock Bottom” next week, as they travel back in time to the Stone Age. If you have a child who is in the production and you have ordered tickets, you will receive them on Monday.
Next Friday’s Celebration Assembly will be the last one of the year – a chance to find out who has won the merit competition for the year and to celebrate the children’s successes in and out of school.
Choir Performance and Open Afternoon
Please come and join us for our last open afternoon of the year next Friday, 19th July to find out what the children have been doing as part of their latest projects. There will be a choir performance in the hall at 2:45pm and the classrooms will open after that. Mrs Kenna has recruited lots of new singers to the choir this half-term, and you are in for a treat!
Year 6 Leavers’ Assembly
On the last day of term, Wednesday 24th July, we will have a Y6 leavers’ Assembly. This is an invitation-only event for the families of the Year 6 children to celebrate their time at Burrough Green and wish them well for the future. If you are the parent of a Y6 child and have not yet replied to your invitation, please do so as soon as possible.
Staffing for next year
The staffing changes for next year are nearly complete, and we are very excited about the staff team that we have in place to continue to move the school forwards and build on the improvements that we have made over the last eighteen months.
The teaching team for next year is very strong with Laurie-Lee McDowell, Harriet Chubb and Angela Harris as full-time class teachers. Sarah Page will continue her specialist music lessons, and Kate Kelly will continue to teach French throughout the school. We are very pleased that Kate Kelly will also be taking on the role of SENCO as Esther Street has decided to return to her roots as a full time humanities teacher at Bottisham Village College. We are still recruiting for a teacher for Class 1 who meets our expectations; we hope to have someone in post very soon. We have a very skilled TA team, too: Michelle Mingay, Nicky Pizey, Alison Brewin, Sheena Brussel and Learrne Hind, who will be working with the class teachers and SENCO to support children’s learning. Sara Hammond and Wanda Butler will be in the school office, and Tina Camps and Helen Brown, also Lunchtime coordinator, will continue with the excellent job they do of keeping our school clean! We will also continue to be supported by a specialist PE teacher from the South Cambs Schools Sports Partnership and specialist coaches who will also provide sports clubs.
There will be a welcome meeting in September for parents so that you can find out more about our improvement priorities for next year, talk to the governors, meet the teachers and find out about what your children will be learning next year.
If you have any questions, please contact the school 01638 507236 or email@example.com to arrange a meeting, or speak to me at the door when you drop the children off in the morning.
New Lunch Catering
In September, we will be using a new catering company, Dolce. With Dolce you will be able to order your child’s lunch online in advance and pay them directly, which should make it easier for you to monitor what your child is eating and keep track of your payments. (Your child will be able to choose their meal at registration time if you have forgotten to book it in advance.) You will receive an e-mail in the near future to allow you to access your personal account so that you can book meals in September.
This afternoon at 2.45pm there will be a taster session from Dolce for parents, and an opportunity for you to find out more.
