Newsletter 26th April 2019
26th April 2019
Dear Parents/carers
I hope that you all enjoyed the glorious weather during the Easter break. Only four more weeks and it will be time for the half term break! Because it is such a short half-term, we have decided to extend our learning projects by a week into next half term. This means that open afternoon will be on Monday 10th June, and you have until then to complete home learning projects.
Mayday Celebrations – May 1st 2:15pm
As we no longer have Mrs Larner to rely on, Mayday celebrations this year will be a little more low-key as the rest of us try to find our way around the maypole dancing, costumes and traditions. Each class will be performing a dance, and there will be an opportunity for visitors to join us in a dance, although my “calling” skills are not as good as Mrs Larner’s! We have chosen Y6 children to be the Mayday characters, including a May King as well as a May Queen. We would like the children to be dressed in smart casual clothes. If you would like your child to make and wear a buttonhole or headdress, they are very welcome to do so, but Mrs Harris is not able to offer headdress making this year. On Wednesday, doors will open at 2:00 for a 2:15 start and you will be able to collect your children (following the normal routine) when the dancing is done! I do hope that you can join us, and that the weather is kind to us.
Deputy Head Appointment
I am very pleased to be able to tell you that we have appointed a new teacher to our KS2 team –Laurie-Lee McDowell. She is an experienced and excellent teacher with lots of enthusiasm and ideas. Some of the children had the opportunity to meet her at the end of last term, and I know that she will be a very strong addition to our teaching team. There will be opportunities for the children to meet her later in the Summer term, ready for her start in September.
New Website and Communications Hub
This week, we are trying out our new communications hub for letters home, so if they look a bit different, that is why. Although you aren’t able to reply directly to these letters home emails, you can still be able to contact the office on office@burroughgreen.cambs.sch.uk By half term we will have sent home login information so that you can download a communications app which should be easier for you to access.
