Newletter 13.03.2020

13th March 2020

Dear Parents/carers

Key dates

For dates of future events and term dates, please regularly check the school calendar on our website:  The calendar is updated regularly and gives you notice of future events right through to the end of the year.

Science 2-Weeks

This week is National Science Week.  This year’s theme is “Our Diverse Planet” and all of the classes have been taking part in some extra science activities linked to this theme: Class 3 has visited the Botanical Gardens and we have had a visit from the East Cambs Recycling Service.  Next week, we have Professor Bubbleworks on Thursday and our fortnight culminates in a STEM day on Friday March 20th, when they will have the opportunity to do some practical hands-on STEM activities with a visiting team of scientists.  Please remember, there will be no Celebration Assembly on Friday 20th March.

Café Français – Tuesday March 24th

Class 4 will be running a French café on the afternoon of Tuesday March 24th. French-style cakes and pastries will be on sale for £1.00 and genuine French cordial drinks for 50p. All pupils will have an opportunity to visit the café, so they will need some money in school on that day if they wish to make a purchase. The idea of the café is for us to practise our French in a fun way, and to raise some funds, which will help pay for a professional show in French in the summer term.

Wear a Hat Day – Friday March 27th

We would like you to help us to raise some money for Brain Tumour Research as this is a cause that is very close to our school community at the moment.  Wear a Hat Day 2020 is set to be the biggest, boldest and HATTIEST yet. Grab your favourite hat, or make your own, and raise funds by bringing a donation into school to bring us closer to a cure for brain tumours. It would be great to see parents in hats at celebration assembly, too!  For more information, see:

For advice on stopping the spread of viruses and on what to do if you think you or your child may have contracted coronavirus, please see the information page on our website in the “Parents” menu, which we are updating regularly as advised by Public Health England.  We have added information this week about the government’s current advice and the situations in which we might have to close the school.  If we do have to close, we will create a page for each class on our website, where you will be able to find activities and resources for home learning during the closure.  There is currently no cause for concern at the school, but we’ll keep you informed about any developments and ensure we’re keeping the school clean to prevent the spread of any virus.

PTA – Reading books to donate

We are looking for KS2 reading books for the book case in the school foyer! You can donate books, swap your books or buy 3 for £1.

Plant to Plate

Remember, tokens will be published daily in the East Anglian Daily Times (two on Saturday) and Ipswich Star – the first token appeared on Saturday 18th January 2020, final token on Friday 27th March 2020. Please bring your tokens into school by the end of March.  Thank you!  Mrs Brusell will restart gardening club for the children on Wednesday lunchtimes in the spring.
