3rd July 2020
Dear Parents and Carers
End of Term
Just a reminder that we have two weeks left until our last day of term on July 17th. BGPS will then be closed until 4th September.
Re-opening in September
We are looking forward to September and are very pleased that there will be changes to the protective measures guidance that will allow us to have all children back in school. If you would like to read it, the government information for parents about re-opening can be found here. We now have to work out how to implement these changes ready for September, and will be able to provide more detailed information over the next few weeks, after consulting with the governors and LA.
We have been trying to find a way to arrange an opportunity for your child to meet with the class teacher that they will have in September before the end of term on July 17th. We hope that this will help any children that haven’t been able to come back to school, who might be a bit anxious and would like to be able to meet their teacher and ask some questions to find out more about next year. (The parents of children in Y2 received an email on Tuesday 30th June regarding their child’s class allocation for next year.) The children who are currently in school will be able to meet their teacher during school hours, if they are not already working with them! Unfortunately, it is not possible for Mrs Leadbeter to be in school at the moment.
We would like to invite small groups of children (<15) under strict social distancing conditions of >2m from all other members of the group, particularly the teachers, to join us for an hour on the school field (or in the hall if the weather is inclement). The children will have marked places to sit, and will be expected to use hand sanitiser upon arrival. They do not need to be in school uniform, and they should not bring anything with them. Parents will not be able to stay, I am afraid, as gatherings of this size are not allowed under current guidance, and parents are not allowed into the school building (apart from the lobby) as part of our current protective measures.
The meetings for the children not currently attending school are as follows:
Friday 10th July 1:00 – 2:00: current Y4 with Ms McDowell
Friday 10th July 2:15 – 3:15: current Y5 with Ms McDowell
Tuesday 14th July 1:30 – 2:30: current Y2 who will be in Class 3 in September with Miss Chubb
Tuesday 14th July 2:45 – 3:45: current Y3 with Miss Chubb
Wednesday 15th July 1:30 – 2:30: Y1 and current Y2 who will be in Class 2 in September with Mrs Harris
If your child would like to come to their transition meeting, please book their place using the form link https://forms.gle/xoS51btkQymvkymq7 by Thursday 9th July.
Year 6 leavers’ morning
As it is the last day of term, July 17th will be our Y6’s last day with us. I know that this has been a very strange year, and they are disappointed about the impact of the coronavirus on some of their Y6 experiences. However, the morning of July 17th will be their leavers’ party, with fun and games and a leavers’ takeaway pizza and chips lunch. We would like them to wear their leavers’ hoodie and bring (not wear) a white T-shirt if they would like it to be signed. (They will need to bring their own Sharpie to sign other people’s shirts.) If they have one, they can bring a water pistol (and maybe a spare set of clothes!) for water fun (weather permitting). During the morning they will be presented with Bibles and prayer books, and they will find out who has won the seven end of Key Stage 2 awards. They will also have a chance to watch the film that Mrs Brewin has put together; they were all so cute as babies! Unfortunately, coronavirus prevents parents from attending this year, as gatherings of this size are not allowed under current guidance, and parents are not allowed into the school building (apart from the lobby) as part of our current protective measures. However, we will make sure that the children have the best final morning that we are able to provide for them in these unprecedented circumstances. There is an order form for the takeaway pizza and chips attached to this newsletter. Please either return this to us (with the £5 in cash), e-mail the office or message Ms McDowell on ClassDojo with your child’s preferences by Friday 10th July, please.
If you need to order new school uniform, please find the form on the website, and email the school office. When we receive your order we will add the total amount payable to your SchoolGrid account.
