Instrumental Tuition

Studies have shown that learning a musical instrument is incredibly beneficial to the confidence, emotional growth, mental well-being and behavioural development of children.  We are fortunate to have three peripatetic instrumental teachers who visit school and have spaces to take on new pupils. If you have any questions, please contact us or you can contact them directly for more information:

Recorder, Saxophone, All brass, *Drum kit, Singing - Fallon Howe – fallonhowemusician@gmail.com

Piano – Jo Pumfrey – jopumfrey.jp@gmail.com

Guitar – Dan Andrews - dansband@hotmail.co.uk

*We now have a drum kit in school for children to use for their lessons.  I’m tempted to have a go myself!

Warm clothing

As we move into the winter months, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather.  They do spend time outside each day (unless it is pouring with rain) so it is important that they have warm, waterproof coats and outdoor shoes/wellies.  Trainers are good for being active, but cold, wet socks lead to very uncomfortable feet!  Good ventilation is one of our risk reduction measures for covid, so we do need to have some windows open in our classrooms during lesson times, along with opening them all for a time during breaks to refresh the air.  Please feel free to send your child in additional base layers (skins/vest/extra t-shirt) under their school uniform if you would like to.  Please remember to label everything with their name.  Hand-written names and sticky labels do fade/fall off when items are washed so it is a good idea to check them periodically.

Reminder: Scholastic Book Club

Thank you for the orders you have made for books so far.  Our new Scholastic Book Club is up and running! Go to https://schools.scholastic.co.uk/burrough-green/digital-book-club to browse the latest books and order online. For every £1 you spend on this month’s Book Club, our school will earn 20p in Scholastic Rewards. Your child will bring home a copy of the catalogue.

Please place your order online by November 12th, 2021.

Reminder: My School Fund

In association with Argos and Sainsbury’s, we have a new way to fundraise for the school when you are shopping. Every time you make a purchase, both you and BG benefit with cashback. A flyer is attached to this email. Click on the link to register as an individual and link your account to the school.  https://www.myschoolfund.org/#/

In the next two weeks….

Y5/6 Residential Visit to Aylmerton Field Study Centre

The Year 5’s and 6’s are very excited about visiting Norfolk next week on their residential trip.  We hope the weather is kind to them!

Friday 12th November – Children in Need

We will be collecting donations for Children in Need at the door in the morning, and it will be a non-uniform day.  If they have something yellow or spotty or Children in Need themed, that would be great, but if not any other non-uniform would be fine!  (Please make sure that their clothing and footwear is appropriate for the weather!)

Wednesday 17th November – Small Schools Cross Country Competition

A group of our runners will be travelling to Milton Country Park to take part in the cross country competition.  Thank you to Mrs Brewin and the parent volunteers who have been organising running club on Monday lunchtimes, and keeping the tradition of running at Burrough Green going strong.

PTA News

Virtual Christmas Auction - following the popularity of last year's auction, we will be holding another one between Friday 26th November and Sunday 5th December. We have had some lovely lots donated already but would welcome a lot more for this festive event! They can be physical items or offers of promises such as time (for gardening or car washing etc). Please contact Fran on bgptachair@gmail.com if you are able to donate anything. Thank you!

Elfridges - the PTA are thrilled to announce that Elfridges will once again be open for business at the school on Friday 3rd December! This is a chance for the children to buy family (and pet!) Christmas presents in secret. Each present will cost £1 and come home pre- wrapped. The elves are looking forward to visiting!
