Dear Parents/carers

 Key dates

For dates of future events and term dates, please regularly check the school calendar on our e-schools app and on our website:  The calendar is updated regularly and gives you notice of future events right through to the end of the year.

We are very pleased to be welcoming Mrs Rhiannon Price to our team.  She will be working with Miss Chubb and Miss McDowell to support the children’s learning in Classes 3 and 4, and also as an MDSA at lunchtimes.

Hockey Tournament – “Spirit of the Games” winners!

On Wednesday, we were proud to send two teams to the South Cambridgeshire Schools Sports Partnership’s Kwik Sticks hockey competition.  Once again, the children made us very proud with their fantastic teamwork and their attitude to competitive sport.  One team placed 2nd in the plate competition; the other team placed 5th in the cup competition and were awarded the “Spirit of the Games” award.  Teams are nominated for this award by the leaders running the competition and other schools because of the fair play and sportsmanship they demonstrate.  We are incredibly proud of them for this achievement.  A full report with photos can be found here:

 World Book Day

Thank you to everyone who re-imagined their favourite character in potato form for World Book Day yesterday.  We were really impressed by the children’s imagination and creativity in bring book characters to life as potatoes.  We hope the four winners enjoy reading the books that they received as a prize for their efforts.  Please take a look at the “News” tab on our website to see photographs of the potato-y characters.

 Science 2-Weeks

Next week is National Science Week.  This year’s theme is “Our Diverse Planet” and all of the classes will be taking part in some extra science activities over the next two weeks linked to this theme.  We also have some visitors booked during the fortnight, and Class 3 will be visiting the Botanical Gardens on 11th March.  Our fortnight culminates in the STEM day that we have organised for the children on Friday March 20th, when they will have the opportunity to do some practical hands-on STEM activities with a visiting team of scientists.  Please remember, there will be no Celebration Assembly on this day.

Poster Competition

As part of this week’s home learning, and linked to science week, the children have the opportunity to enter a national poster competition.  They will have information in their book bags today, and there is a flyer attached to this email with more details.

Swimming Pool Volunteers

We need volunteers to help us and the PTA to run swimming sessions in the summer term.  If you think you might be able to help, please come to our resuscitation training on Tuesday 10th March at 2pm.  (It is compulsory for us to have two resuscitation-trained adults at every swimming session.)  You will also need a school DBS certificate, which is free and the school will do this with you.  If you are able to attend the resuscitation training, please let the office know.

For advice on stopping the spread of viruses and on what to do if you think you or your child may have contracted coronavirus, please see the information page on our website in the “Parents” menu, which are updating regularly as advised by Public Health England.  We have added information this week about the government’s new action plan.  There is currently no cause for concern at the school, but we’ll keep you informed about any developments and ensure we’re keeping the school clean to prevent the spread of any virus.
