Dear Parents and Carers

We have reached the end of another tumultuous week, and Christmas feels as if it was a lifetime ago!  This is a time when we need to be kind to each other, so thank you for all the messages of care and support that you have sent us.  We have been particularly touched by the kindness of Katrina at “The Bull” pub who has provided the school staff with a takeaway lunch today to say thank you from the community for everything that we are doing.  Thank you for being such a wonderful community – it makes the difficult days easier!

Covid Update

The rules around self-isolation and COVID have not changed.  Rates are still increasing in our area and NHS have declared a ‘Major incident' in Cambridgeshire as COVID threatens to overwhelm health services.  A similar picture is emerging at Addenbrookes hospital.  It is more important than ever that you do not send your child to school if they are unwell or have any COVID symptoms.  You must also keep them at home if any member of your household has COVID symptoms.

We know that there have been cases of COVID in Burrough Green and in some parents in our school community over the Christmas break.  If we do have a positive case of COVID in any child or member of staff currently attending BGPS, we will close their bubble and all children in that bubble will move to home learning, including those of critical workers.  Despite having robust risk reduction strategies in place, with infection rates so high locally at the moment, you need to be aware that this is a real possibility.  (Class 1 and 2 are both in Bubble A, Class 3 and 4 are both in Bubble B.)

Please use to inform us of COVID symptoms/cases.  This email is monitored during the day, in the evenings and at weekends so that we can support you if your child, or someone in your household, has coronavirus symptoms or a confirmed case of COVID.  It will also enable us to take prompt action to safeguard other members of the school community. During school hours, it is still best to phone the school.

Learning at Home

I would like to say a really big thank you to all of you who are delivering home learning.  You are doing an amazing job in what is a very difficult situation.  We know that many of you are trying to work from home at the same time.  The class teachers are providing recorded videos to support you so that you have the flexibility to use them at times in the day that work for your situation.  If you haven’t yet given consent for us to meet virtually with your child(ren), please could you do this as soon as possible?

Yesterday afternoon, the DfE released some new guidance for schools.  The teachers and I will review our remote learning plan in light of this and update you next week.  The sooner infection rates drop and we can have all the children back, the better!  We miss them.

Free Data SIMs

I do have a small number of free data SIMs that have been donated by Vodafone for families without a home broadband connection to help them to stay connected if they are using mobile data for home learning.  They come with 30GB of data free for 90 days.  Vodafone’s information leaflet is attached to this newsletter.  If you are relying on mobile data and think this would be useful, please get in touch with us.

Warm Clothes

If you have a child currently attending school, please make sure that they are wearing enough warm clothes when they come to school each day.  It is very cold outside, and we are using the outside as much as possible as the risk of transmission is lower.  We also have to have some windows open for ventilation at all times, and open all windows and doors when the children are not in the room to replace the stale air with fresh.  Although we do have the heating on, this is making the classrooms a little cooler than normal, particularly when the children first come into the room after a playtime.  We are very happy for the children to wear additional layers e.g tights + trousers would be warmer than wearing a skirt.  Thermal vests/baselayers are also very useful!
