10th January 2020

Dear Parents/carers

Happy New Year!

Key dates

For dates of future events, please regularly check the school calendar on our e-schools app and on our website:

Arrivals and Departures

We are very pleased that Mr Jonathan Durham will be joining us next week as a TA for KS2 until the end of the year.  As some of you have noticed, we are currently advertising a vacancy in the school office as Wanda Butler will be leaving us at the end of January to concentrate full-time on her flourishing ICT support business.  We will all miss her hugely, and wish her the very best.

URGENT: the walking bus needs volunteers!!

Can you spare some time in the morning or be a relief for the walking bus? Otherwise it will have to stop! Can you help from 8.30am to 8.50am to gather and walk the children to school? If you already have a School DBS that is useful, but we can complete one for you if you don’t. If you can help, please let the school office know.

Monday Multisport Clubs  – more children needed, please sign up!

Our sports clubs are due to start again on Monday 13th January, but we need more children to make them financially viable.  KS1 multisport club is run at lunchtimes and Year 2-6 multisport club is after school until 4:30.  The clubs offer children a chance to experience different sports each week, and the club members have the chance to pick which sport to choose.  These can include: Dodgeball, Archery, Tennis, Football, Hockey, Table Tennis, Tri Golf, Tag Games, Etc.  The children who do attend thoroughly enjoy the clubs – it would be a real shame to lose this opportunity, but we cannot provide after-school clubs if there are not enough children participating.

If you would like your child to join Dan Penfold’s Prestige Sports Development sport clubs on Mondays this term, please book online at:  or call 07881308250.  Free taster sessions are available if you contact Dan.

Code Club

Following last year’s success, code club will be running again this term on Tuesdays from 21st Jan - 3rd April at lunchtime.  All children are welcome.  They will be using iPad based Scratch Jr (for Reception & Yr1) and Microbit and Scratch (for Y2, 3, 4, 5 and 6).  Children can sign up to join the club next week in school.

As this is a very popular club, we would benefit from some more adult volunteers to help the children.  You do not need to have any technical coding knowledge – just a willingness to support the children with reading and exploring the problems would be very helpful! will be providing all the teaching and materials for the children.  You do not have to be available every week.  If you are able to support code club, please let the office know.

Fun Friday – 17th January

The next Fun Friday is Friday 17th January 2020. There will be a good quality sausage in a roll, cucumber and carrot sticks, dessert and drinks provided for £5 per child, £3 for each sibling. (Vegetarian or other dietary requirements will be catered for.) The PTA will be showing TOY STORY 4 (PG) while the children eat.  If you would like your child/children to attend, please fill out the slip below and return to the office with your payment in a SEALED envelope by Wednesday 15th January 2020. As usual, these children will remain in school at 3:30pm to enjoy Fun Friday, and must be collected promptly at 5:30pm.  If you have any questions, please speak to Mrs Harris, Dani Penhaligan or Rachel Drennan.  All proceeds will go to the PTA – THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

Chinese New Year in Class 1

It has long been a tradition for Class 1 to join with playgroup to celebrate Chinese New Year.  We are very excited that this year playgroup have arranged for a visitor to help us with our celebrations on 22nd January.  She will be bringing a dragon for the children to dance with, and will be able to share her first-hand experiences of New Year celebrations.  We need to ask for a voluntary contribution of £2.50 for each child in Class 1 to cover the costs of the visit.  If we do not receive contributions, we will not be able to fund the visit.  Please pay via school grid.
