11th February 2022

Dear Parents and Carers

Despite Covid’s best efforts, including its impact on our teaching team, we have made it to the end of this half-term!  We are lucky to have such a dedicated, flexible and resilient team at BGPS and I am very grateful to all of the staff who have done extra hours and stepped into other people’s shoes to keep the school open.  Have a good week next week; we will see you again on Monday 21st February.

From the governors …

There was a full governing body meeting on Thursday 10th February, and the governors would like to share the following five key points with you:

  • Governors were presented with an overview of the Cornerstones Curriculum and the Maestro platform to gain a more in-depth understanding of how this is used to build the school’s curriculum and to monitor and assess pupil attainment and progress.
  • Governors have recently received valuable Ofsted Framework training to prepare them for the next inspection.
  • Governors wish to thank all staff for their continued hard work, dedication and resilience through challenging circumstances caused by the ongoing Covid situation.
  • The Chair was delighted to meet with so many parents at the school recently and is looking forward to receiving nominations for the Parent Governor vacancy at the election after half term.
  • Governors discussed the importance of raising the profile of the governing body and welcomes feedback from the school community about what they would like to know about the governing body

Covid Update

We still have several people off school with Covid at the moment.  This week there have been new cases in all classes, including two teachers and a teaching assistant.  As all the children have been in close contact with at least one of these cases, please carry on LFD testing each morning for 7 full days.  I would also like to ask that you test your child before the return to school after the half-term holiday on Monday 21st February.  Hopefully, we can minimise Covid disruption next half-term.  We wish Miss Chubb, Mrs Leadbeter and Mrs Mingay a speedy and full recovery.  (And the rest of us have our fingers crossed that we don’t come down with it next week!)

Einstein Class Update

We have missed Mrs Harris enormously over the last three weeks.  Einstein Class have been working hard with Mrs Newman, Mrs Temple and me (along with Mrs Brown, Mrs Brusell and Mrs Pizey).  We are doing our best to minimise the number of different teachers in the class so that the children can get to know them and build a relationship with them.  Finding supply teachers has been challenging as there is so much teacher absence in our area that supply teachers are in extremely short supply.  I am incredibly proud of the children in Einstein Class, who have continued to do their best and have produced some fantastic work this half term.  If you ever need to trap a dragon, they can send you some detailed and imaginative instructions!  The class are continuing to follow Mrs Harris’s plans for the year (which can be found on our website here).  Mrs Newman will be in Einstein Class on the Monday and Tuesday after half term to help our Einsteins embark on their “Predator” project which looks very exciting.  I will update you about Mrs Harris’s return when I can.
