Dear Parents and Carers

To see what’s been happening at BGPS, please go to our website and Twitter feed:

Y6 SATs
The Year 6 children have made us incredibly proud this week with their aspiration and resilience whilst tackling their maths and English tests.  They have even held onto their sense of humour at the same time – who knew that the test papers would be unicorn flavour?!  Well done Y6 for your hard work – you should be very proud of yourselves (and you deserve a treat this weekend!)

Congratulations!
Congratulations to Charlotte Holroyd who is expecting a baby in the autumn.  We are all very excited about another addition to the BGPS family!

Covid Update
We have had confirmed cases of Covid in every class this week, including some members of staff, who have been very unwell.  Please keep your child at home if they are unwell.  If children are unwell at school, we will contact you to collect them.  Thank you for your support with this.

Queen’s Jubilee Picnic lunch on Thursday 19th May
Schools are reimbursed annually by the government for the cost of providing free school meals for children in YR, Y1 and Y2.   The money that we get back from the DfE to provide these meals is calculated from the number of YR, 1 and 2 children who have a school meal next Thursday (January 20th).  It would be really helpful for the school’s finances if all children in YR, Y1 and Y2 could order a school meal on Thursday (it won’t cost you any money).  Parents of children in KS2 (Y3, 4, 5 and 6) will be charged as normal.  Thank you for your support with this.  There will also be one lunch tray with a lucky sticker – whoever gets this will wine a £5 Amazon voucher!

The menu for Thursday 19th May is:
Picnic Lunch contains selection of party food:
Sausage rolls, vegetarian sausage rolls, pizza, wedges, filled roll, cucumber and carrot sticks.

Celebration cake
Fresh Fruit
Organic Dairy Yoghurt

BGPS Jubilee Celebration on Monday 6th June 2pm
We are looking forward to our red, white and blue Jubilee Tea Party on the afternoon of Monday 6th June to round-off the weekend of celebrations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.  As we have combined this event with our May Day festivities this year, the children have been practising hard to learn their English country dances, and I hope you will be ready to join in with our traditional community dance – the Circassian Circle!  (If you want to practise, there is a clip here!)  We would like the children to wear any combination of red, white and blue clothing on the day; please feel free to do the same.  To help us plan, please could you let us know if you are able to join us on 6th June by completing this form

From the governors …
Governors would like to share the following five points from their last meeting:
• Governors are proud of the ongoing teamwork demonstrated by all of the children and of how supportive they are of each other. We were thrilled to hear of their achievements in the wide range of local events the children have been involved in.
• Recent attainment and progress data has been shared with Governors and we were pleased to see the areas of strength but also acknowledge the areas of focus.
• Governors were delighted to see the successful partnership between the school and parent/carers to get the swimming pool up and running again for the children during the summer term.
• Governors were pleased with the outcome of the recent parent governor election process and look forward to welcoming the new parent governor in due course.
• After more than two years of virtual meetings, governors were happy to finally be able to meet in person once again.

As we near the end of this summer half term, the committee want to say a big thank you and the children for your ongoing support of PTA events. It really makes all the difference.
We also wanted to remind everyone that after 3 years of service, the current PTA committee will be stepping down at the next AGM. We would welcome any interest for prospective Chair, Treasurer and Secretary roles - please forward the attached poster to anyone who may be interested and contact Fran (Chair) on bgptachair@gmail.com for any specific information. Thankyou
