Dear Parents/carers

Key dates

For dates of future events, please regularly check the school calendar on our e-schools app and on our website:

LAST CHANCE: Monday Multisport Clubs – more children needed, please sign up!

Our sports clubs were due to start on Monday 13th January, but there were not enough children signed up to make them financially viable.  Unless more children are booked into the clubs by Monday 20th January, then we will no longer be able to offer them, which would be a great shame for the children who do want them, and the parents who benefit from a later pick-up time.

KS1 multisport club is run at lunchtimes and Year 2-6 multisport club is after school until 4:30.  The clubs offer children a chance to experience different sports each week, and the club members have the chance to pick which sport to choose.  These can include: Dodgeball, Archery, Tennis, Football, Hockey, Table Tennis, Tri Golf, Tag Games, Etc.

If you would like your child to join Dan Penfold’s Prestige Sports Development sport clubs on Mondays this term, please book online at:  or call 07881308250.  Free taster sessions are available if you contact Dan.

The walking bus needs more volunteers!!

Thank you to the parents who have come forward this week to volunteer to help with the walking bus, but we still need more adults.  Can you spare some time in the morning or be a relief for the walking bus, from 8.30am to 8.50am to gather and walk the children to school? If you already have a Burrough Green DBS that is useful, but we can complete one for you if you don’t. If you can help, please let the school office know.

Code Club – adult helpers needed!

Following last year’s success, code club will be running again this term on Tuesdays from 21st Jan - 3rd April at lunchtime.  As this is a very popular club, we would benefit from some more adult volunteers to help the children.  You do not need to have any technical coding knowledge – just a willingness to support the children with reading and exploring the problems would be very helpful! will be providing all the teaching and materials for the children.  You do not have to be available every week.  If you are able to support code club, please let the office know.

Chinese New Year in Class 1

It has long been a tradition for Class 1 to join with playgroup to celebrate Chinese New Year.  We are very excited that this year playgroup have arranged for a visitor to help us with our celebrations on 22nd January.  She will be bringing a dragon for the children to dance with, and will be able to share her first-hand experiences of New Year celebrations.  We need to ask for a voluntary contribution of £2.50 for each child in Class 1 to cover the costs of the visit.  If we do not receive contributions, we will not be able to fund the visit.  Please pay via school grid.

Plant to Plate

The East Anglian Daily Times and Ipswich Star are launching the latest in their series of school token collect campaigns: “Plant to Plate” on Saturday 18th January 2020. “Plant to Plate” offers schools the chance to improve or create a school garden in order to give children the opportunity to focus on their surroundings and the environment. At the same time, it aims to encourage children to engage with nature, to enjoy the great outdoors and to extend learning about food by growing fruits and vegetables.

Partnering with “Enjoy Gardening More”, primary schools across the region will share in £10,000 worth of equipment. The three schools that have collected the most tokens as a percentage of children registered at that school will win £1,000 of gardening equipment each, plus personal advice and guidance from Head Gardener Peter McDermott.

Every other school that collects more than 1,000 tokens will receive a pack worth £130 including strawberry runners, pumpkin seeds, tomato planters, sunflower seeds, potato planters, herbs, a planting kit and compost. Planting guides with recipe ideas will also be in the pack.

Mrs Brusell, who will restart gardening club for the children on Wednesday lunchtimes in the spring, has registered Burrough Green to participate.   Tokens will be published daily in the East Anglian Daily Times (two on Saturday) and Ipswich Star – the first token appears on Saturday 18th January 2020, final token on Friday 27th March 2020. Please bring your tokens into school by the end of March.  Thank you!
