Dear Parents and Carers

Wraparound Care at BGPS

Prior to COVID (which feels like a lifetime ago) the governors and I were in the process of researching whether there was a financially-viable demand for wraparound care at BGPS and had found an external provider to work with: Cambridge Kids Club

We know that parents’ circumstances may have changed since pre-pandemic times, so now that things are returning to “normal” we are keen to find out whether there is sufficient demand for an after-school club to start in September.  You will shortly receive a separate email with more information from Cambridge Kids Club including a link to register interest.  Please complete their survey as soon as possible.

Next Friday 28th May is our last day before half term, children are back on Monday 7th June.

INSET day on Monday 21st June

Don’t forget that we have our final training day of the academic year on June 21st, so the school will be closed to all pupils on that day.  The teachers are excited about the “Talk for Writing” training that they will be doing!

Free School Meals

If your financial circumstances have been affected by the COVID 19 crisis your child could now be entitled to Free School Meals (FSM).  Currently, the Local Authority are also providing supermarket vouchers during school holidays.

You may not be aware that there is a difference between Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) and Benefit Related Free School Meals (FSM).  All children in YR, 1 and 2 automatically receive UIFSM, but your child may also be eligible for Benefit-Related Free School Meals. If your child is in Y3, 4, 5 or 6 it is estimated that you could save around £450 per year in lunch costs.

There are also wider on-going benefits to your child throughout their primary school education if you register for Benefit-Related FSM.  When you receive FSM, you will also allow BGPS to receive a Pupil Premium Grant, which is extra money that we can use in a variety of ways to support children from families on lower incomes.  So, even if your child is currently in receipt of UIFSM (Reception, Year 1 or Year 2), we recommend that you apply for FSM if you are eligible.

It is very quick and easy - just fill out the simple online application form here   If you would like any help or advice, please contact the school office.

FSM Eligibility Criteria:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (unless you’re also entitled to Working Tax Credit, and earn no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on (paid for 4 weeks after you stop receiving Working Tax Credit)
  • Universal Credit (provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400)
